French Southern Territories
The French Southern Territories (TAAF) are an overseas region of France located in the Indian Ocean, comprising islands like Réunion, Mauritius, and the Kerguelen archipelago.
Governed by a prefect and territorial council, the territory has a population of around 850,000, with Réunion’s capital, Saint-Denis, serving as the administrative hub. Economically, it relies on tourism, agriculture, and fishing, while its strategic location and rich wildlife make it a unique ecological and geopolitical region.
