French Polynesia
French Polynesia is a French overseas region comprised of 118 islands, formed from coral reefs, which are southwest of New Zealand and east of New Caledonia.
The main islands constitute the archipelagoes of the Society, Cook, the Leeward and Hawaiian groups. French Polynesia covers an area of approximately 4,502 square kilometers and is divided into 4 sections: Ufi (the non-resident French nationals territory) including Tahiti; the French Polynesia resident returning, Overseas Department and the non-resident French nationals territory. The Polynesian islands are well known for their unspoiled nature and for gift-giving customs. Tahiti is the most valued and well-known island, and its largest city.
